QS World University Rankings: London-based QS (Quacquarelli Symonds)  released its annual World University Rankings 2022 on June 8, 2021. It has been a proud moment for the country as a total of 12 Indian institutes made it to the top 100 in the latest QS World University Rankings by Subjects 2021.

Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank took this opportunity to congratulate all the Indian institutions that featured in the rankings. He took to Twitter and in a series of tweets, he expressed his emotions for the country taking such a leap in the field of education and research. He tweeted, "Today, I'm extremely proud to share that India is taking a leap in the field of Education & Research and is emerging as a VISHVAGURU."

 

The Union Education Minister also added, "Initiatives such as #NEP2020 & IOE are instrumental in ranking our colleges and institutes globally. This can be felt by looking at the university rankings declared by QS & Times Group."

 

The universities that featured in the QS ranking include Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Madras, IIT Guwahati, IIT Kharagpur, Indian Institute of Science Bengaluru, Anna University, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) New Delhi, OP Jindal Global University, Delhi University, Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Bangalore and IIM Ahmedabad.

The full list of the Indian universities under various categories are as follows:

Business and Management - Under business and management, IIM Bangalore and IIM Ahmedabad made it to the top 100. The overall scores for these two institutes are 72.9 and 72.4, respectively. IIM Bangalore occupied the 76th position and IIM Ahmedabad occupied the 80th position in the rankings. Harvard University (business school) was the top institution in this category.

Law and Legal Studies - Under this category, Jindal Global Law School (JGLS) of OP Jindal Global University (JGU) is ranked 76 out of all law schools globally in these rankings. The total score of this institution is 70.5. Harvard University (law school) was the number one in this category.

Chemical Engineering - In this category, IIT Bombay stood at rank 70 with overall score 71.8. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) took the top spot in this category.

Computer Science and Information System - Under this category, IIT Bombay with rank 67 and IIT Delhi with rank 70 featured in the top 100. The overall scores of these institutions were 71.6 and 71.3, respectively. MIT secured the top spot in this category as well.

Mineral and Mining Engineering - Under this category,  IIT Bombay with rank 41 and IIT Kharagpur with rank 44 came in the top 100 list. The overall scores of these institutions were 64.6 and 64, respectively.

Electrical and Electronic Engineering - Under this category, IIT Delhi, IIT Bombay and IIT Madras were among top 100 with ranks 54, 61 and 82, respectively.

Petroleum Engineering - Under this category, IIT Madras stood 30th in the world. Anna University and IIT Guwahati also featured in the top 100 list in this subject category.

Chemistry - Under this category, Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru stood 93rd in the list with overall score 73.7.

Material Sciences - IISc Bengaluru also featured in the 78th spot in the Materials Sciences category with overall score 69.7.

Development Studies - Under this category, Delhi University ranked 50th in the world with overall score 71.6.
