Punjab Educational Institutions Closed: The sudden spike in the number of COVID-19 cases all over the country has forced state governments into taking drastic measures to curb the rapidly spreading virus. On Monday, April 19, 2021, Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has announced the closure of all educational institutions and coaching centres in the state till April 30, 2021.

On Monday, the Punjab Chief Minister in a series of tweet announced the restrictions in the state in order to contain the spread of the COVID-19 infection. The Punjab government has also decided to impose a night curfew in the state from 8 PM to 5 AM. Captain Amarinder Singh tweeted from his official twitter handle, "In view of the sudden spike in #Covid19 cases, stricter measures are a must. During a review meeting today with experts, have decided to impose night curfew throughout the State from 8 PM to 5 AM. Coaching institutes, Gyms, bars & cinemas to remain shut till 30th April."

Over the last few weeks, the COVID-19 situation has worsened in the country and so the state governments are adopting stringent measures to tackle the disaster.
Earlier, Punjab had already announced the closure of all educational institutions in the state till April 30, 2021, in view of the surge in the number of coronavirus cases. The Chief Minister's tweet from yesterday has also included the coaching institutes in the list.
Last week, the Punjab Chief Minister had announced that the students belonging to classes 5, 8 and 10 will be promoted to the next class without any exams. The decision regarding the class 12 board exams which have already been postponed will be taken later depending on the situation.
Coming back to the restrictions imposed by the Punjab government, the Chief Minister tweeted that the eating places in hotels will remain closed on Sundays but will allow takeaways on other weekdays. The state has also banned gatherings of more than 20 people in weddings and funerals. Also, it has been made mandatory for the people flying into Punjab to show RT-PCR negative report.
