Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said that the recently launched New Education Policy is key to fulfilling nation’s aspirations and will shape up Aatmanirbhar Bharat's vision. The prime minister was addressing the Governor's Conference on New Education Policy. The video conference was also attended by President Ram Nath Kovind and Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal.

“Education policy key to fulfill nation's aspirations but govt's intervention, influence should be minimal in this,” the prime minister said while addressing the conference. He added that employability of our country's youth will increase with a practical learning approach which has been stated under this policy. 

“The new policy lays emphasis on practicality, performance, critical analysis and assessment,” PM Modi said. 

He said that India has been ancient centre of learning and the government is working to make it hub of knowledge economy in 21st century. PM Modi also underlined the importance of students, parents and teachers in the success of the education policy.  

“The more teachers, parents, students are associated with education policy, the more relevant and broadbased it will be,” he said.  

The conference titled 'Role of NEP-2020 in Transforming Higher Education' was organised by the Ministry of Education. The Governors' Conference was also attended by education ministers of all states, vice-chancellors of state universities and other senior officials. 

The NEP-2020 is directed towards major reforms in both school and higher education levels. 

"The new National Education Policy strives for making India into an equitable and vibrant knowledge society. It envisions an India-centred education system that contributes directly to transforming India into a global superpower," the statement from ministry said. 

The Ministry of Education and University Grants Commission had earlier organised a 'Conclave on Transformational Reforms in Higher Education under National Education Policy-2020', which was addressed by PM Modi.
