Although a final decision is yet not taken, reports suggest that the administration is mulling giving a final shape to the proposal on similar lines to the change in the session of the Higher Education Department (HED). The J&K administration had recently shifted the HED academic session to July in line with the National Academic Calendar.

The reason behind shifting the session is that Class 10 and 12 exams end in November and students have to wait till July to enroll in professional courses outside the UT as the new academic term starts in July.

Any change in the session will bring the academic session in line with the schools across India.

The move follows the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP)-2020 and the Uniform Academic Calendar in the Higher Education Department (HED) starting with the current academic session.
