In such a scenario, various uncertainties have cropped up regarding the exams and other academic activities. In case of schools, several state governments have either postponed the exams or cancelled them for the time being while the CBSE assured that it will conduct the board exams by maintaining all the COVID-19 protocol.

In case of colleges, the Karnataka state government recently has made it very clear that the exams and academic activities would not be affected because of the surge in the number of coronavirus cases as per PTI. Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister Dr C.N. Ashwath Narayan said to the reporters, "The examinations at university-level, including degree, post-graduation, engineering, diploma and all other courses, will be conducted as per schedule." He also added that the academic activities have been delayed considerably and there should not be any further delay. In case of any further delay, the cycle of course period, test, results, employment, further studies would get cut. The Deputy Chief Minister also ensured that measures have been taken to ensure the academic activities for the year 2021-22 are not affected.
Narayan stated, "After the completion of the examinations that are being conducted now, there will be no summer holidays. Functioning of the classes will begin immediately and there will be both offline and online classes." The students will have to attend either of the online or offline classes. However, he also said that the universities and colleges have to follow the standard operating procedure to check the spread of the disease.
Regarding the news of educational institutions in other states, the Gujarat government has issued orders to close down the colleges in the state till April 30, 2021 because of the massive rise in the number of COVID-19 cases in the state.
Coming back to Karnataka, the Deputy Chief Minister noted that the Integrated Learning Management System (LMS) has already been implemented in view of COVID-19. He also pointed out that 2.7 lakh tablet PCs have already been distributed among students to facilitate learning from any locations.
