The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) is going to get a new campus in Greater Noida for its regional centre soon. The new campus of the regional centre located in Knowledge Park V is nearing completion and it will be opened in July, according to reports.
The open university’s regional centre is currently running from a rented building in Sector 62, Noida, Uttar Pradesh.
The Central Public Works Department (CPWD) is currently constructing the new IGNOU centre, which will be completed by July. The new campus has been built on a 2,000 square metre area.
With a well-established infrastructure, the university can also offer practical classes, studios, and other amenities to its students. The Noida regional centre admits 35,000 new students on an average in every academic session. Though the most of the classes are held online, the institution can still organise practical classes for students. This campus will be the biggest in the Eastern UP once the new one opens.
IGNOU is a public research institution and one of the world’s largest universities. With a network of 56 regional centres, the varsity offers various courses through its 21 schools.
Four regional centres in Uttar Pradesh are located in Lucknow, Benaras, Aligarh, and Noida. There are 21 foreign centres in around 15 countries other than India. The university provides 226 courses through these centres.
The University Grants Commission of India (UGC) has also designated IGNOU as a Central University. It also serves as an accreditation body for India's open universities and distance learning programmes.
