In the line with the central government, the Haryana government on Wednesday decided to cancel class 12 state board examinations amid prevailing COVID-19 situation. Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) cancelled Class 12 examinations on Tuesday.

According to news agency Asian News International (ANI), Haryana Education Minister Kanwar Pal declared, "The state government will follow the directions of the Central government in regarding the Class XII examination of Haryana School Education Board, Bhiwani and will conduct an internal assessment based on which the results will be declared soon."

However, also giving an opportunity to give exams on solely students discretion, Pal further added that students who are interested in attempting exams will have the choice to do so, these exams will be held only when circumstances are conducive.

"Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the situation is not conducive for conducting the examination. But if a student wants to take the examination, the examination can be conducted for such students when the circumstances are normal," the state Education Minister said.

The minister also informed that the results of the Class 10 examinations, which was cancelled earlier, shall be declared by June 15.
Haryana government is following the decision taken by the Central government, in this regard Pal said, "We are going with the decision taken by the Centre and have decided to cancel the board exams."

Similarly, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan on Wednesday followed the footsteps of the central government and decided to cancel Class 12 state board examinations in view of the COVID-19 crisis in the country. However, West Bengal has formed an expert committee to take a call on conducting Class 12 and 10 board exams.

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi chairing a high-level meeting announced that his government has decided to cancel CBSE Class 12 examinations on the back of COVID-19 situation. Following the same suite, the Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) also scrapped its Class 12 exams as well. Class 10 exams were cancelled by the Central government earlier.
