Colleges and universities reopening: The COVID-19 pandemic was one of the most uncalled for events of 2020. A nationwide lockdown was imposed in India to ensure the safety of the citizens. Educational institutions were closed down from March. At present, several state governments have made announcements regarding the reopening of the schools. Many state boards have also released the date sheets for the board exams for classes 10 and 12. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has also released the date sheets for the board exams for classes 10 and 12.
According to a dna.com report, recently, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has also issued certain guidelines for reopening of the colleges and universities across the country. The COVID-19 protocols will have to be followed by the educational institutions in order to ensure the safety of the students against the COVID-19 pandemic.

The following guidelines have been issued by the UGC regarding the reopening of the colleges and universities all over the country:
1)  It has to be ensured by the educational institutions that before reopening the college and the university campuses, the area has been declared safe by the central as well as the concerned state government.
2)  The campuses should be sanitized and made disinfected every day. The authorities are expected to ensure the following of social distancing norms inside the campuses. Also, the students, teachers as well as the non-teaching staffs should wear masks all the time .
3) The colleges and the universities will be operating with the attendance of 50% of the students.
4) The class strength in the colleges and universities should be reduced to ensure social distancing rules.
5) In order to make the environment of the educational institutions stress-free, regular visits from a counsellor is encouraged. The educational institutions should also adopt proper helplines for mental and psychological issues.
6) The educational institutions have been advised to refrain from conducting outdoor activities like field works, visits from outside experts.
7) Colleges and universities should also provide online study materials for the students who prefer to attend online classes.
8) The students and the staffs should download the Aarogya Setu app in order to ensure their safety inside and outside the campus premises.
