A PTI report suggests that according to sources, the minister is admitted under Dr Neeraj Nischal, an associate professor in the Department of Medicine at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). The source further said, "He (Pokhriyal) was admitted due to post-Covid complications on Tuesday morning. He is admitted under Dr Neeraj Nishchal." As a result of the Union Education Minister's hospitalisation, it is very unlikely that any decision on the CBSE Class 12 Board Exam 2021 will be announced today.
The CBSE Class 12 Board Exam 2021 was postponed on April 14, 2021, due to surge in the number of COVID-19 cases in the country. Then it was notified that the decision on CBSE Class 12 Board Exam 2021 will be taken after a thorough review of the COVID-19 situation in the country on June 1, 2021.
On May 23, 2021, a national consultation was arranged by the Ministry of Education with the Education Ministers and administrators of all the states and union territories. The consultation was chaired by the Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and was attended by Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank. In the meeting there were discussions on conducting the CBSE Class 12 Board Exam 2021.
In the meeting, the states and the union territories were also asked to send their written feedback on the same by May 25, 2021. Though there was a broad consensus towards conducting the CBSE Class 12 Board Exam 2021, states like Maharashtra put forward a 'non-examination route'. Also, Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia suggested that the students must be vaccinated, or the board exams must be cancelled.
Recently in an opinion piece for The Indian Express, Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank wrote, "Considering all the challenges and existing limitations, we must take a timely decision to prevent uncertainties amongst students, teachers and parents. A decision in time will help lakhs of students explore career opportunities in international colleges and universities for the coming academic sessions." He further highlighted the importance of the Class 12 board exams. He added, "The course of undertaking the limited examination with adequate safety measures will give our generation a sense of pride in their abilities and boost their confidence as opposed to getting a general 'pass' degree, as offered during the pandemic." The Union Education Minister also admitted that there is no denying that some of the students will have a difficult time due to COVID which will deny them the option to take the exams in ideal conditions.
At present, advocate Mamta Sharma filed a PIL in the Supreme Court seeking the cancellation of the CBSE Class 12 Board Exam 2021 due to COVID-19 situation in the country. The hearing began at the apex court last Friday and was adjourned till Monday. Yesterday, the bench adjourned the matter till Thursday noting that competent authorities are examining all aspects and are likely to take a decision which will be placed before the court. the apex court has adjourned the plea filed for the cancellation of the CISCE CBSE Class 12 Board Exam 2021 after being informed by the Attorney General that the government will be taking final decision in the next two days.
