Advocate Mamta Sharma filed a PIL in the Supreme Court seeking the cancellation of the CBSE Class 12 Board Exam 2021 due to the COVID-19 situation in the country. The hearing began today at 10.30 AM. As per the thread of tweets from Live Law, the bench asked Advocate Mamta Sharma if she has served an advanced copy to the counsel of CBSE to which Sharma replied that she will do that today. The bench said to the petitioner counsel, "Be optimistic. Maybe there will a resolution in your favour. Serve the other side first, so other side is represented."
The bench then added, "We permit counsel for petitioner to serve standing counsel for Central Agency, CBSE and ICSE. Sr Adv Das submits he will represent ICSE. List this matter on Monday, 11 am." So, the case has been adjourned and the hearing will resume on Monday, May 31, 2021, at 11 AM.
As per an india.com report, the petition filed by Advocate Mamta Sharma said, "Conducting Class 12 board examinations online or offline not feasible because of an unprecedented pandemic. Delay in the declaration of Class 12 results will hamper students taking admission to foreign universities. CBSE and CISCE must devise an object methodology to declare the results within the specified time else it will affect nearly 12 lakh students."
Incidentally, a high-level government meeting on conducting the CBSE Class 12 Board Exam 2021 and other board exams was held on May 23, 2021 and was attended by the Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank.
In the meeting, the states and the union territories were asked to send their written feedback on the same by May 25, 2021. A decision on the CBSE Class 12 Board Exam 2021 will be taken soon. As a matter of fact, when the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) postponed the CBSE Class 12 Board Exam 2021 last month, it stated that a decision on the same will be notified to the students after a thorough review of the situation on June 1, 2021.
