As per a report by PTI, amidst this situation, more than one lakh students of classes 10 and 12 have signed petitions urging the government to either cancel board exams scheduled to be held in May or conduct them in online mode. However, both the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) have said that adequate safety arrangements are being made for students and all COVID-19 guidelines will be followed during the exams.
A senior CBSE official said, "Adequate arrangements are being made to ensure the students are safe and all COVID protocols are followed. The number of exam centres has been increased by 40-50 per cent to ensure social distancing. The staff at exam centres is being sensitised to ensure all guidelines are followed."
Several unconfirmed reports have also been spreading on social media stating that the CBSE has introduced several changes in conducting the CBSE class 10 class 12 board exams. Reacting to these rumours, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) tweeted, "There are some persons deliberately trying to create confusion about this year's board exams by circulating old news of 1.4.20 regarding X and XII exams. Students should ignore this old circular of last year and not be misled. Board has not issued any such information."

In its tweet, the CBSE has also attached copies of previous years' notifications regarding the CBSE class 10 class 12 board exams. The CBSE has not yet issued any instructions regarding the postponement or cancellation of CBSE board exams 2021 for class 10 class 12 candidates.
Divya Garg, a class 10 student, on Twitter urged the government to postpone the exams for at least a month and then take a further review based on the number of cases.
Incidentally, the CBSE class 10 class 12 board exams are set to start in less than a month. The CBSE board exams are slated to commence from May 4, 2021 and will continue till June 14, 2021.
A petition on Change.org stated, "The situation in India is getting worse day by day. When there were only a few cases in the country, they cancelled the remaining board exams and now when the cases are at a peak they are planning to open schools. We urge the education minister to look into this matter and cancel all examinations to be held this year as students are already under a lot of stress."
The CBSE in a recent notification stated that the board will conduct the practical exams for the students who have been tested COVID positive or if any family member of the candidate has been tested COVID positive. The board will reconduct the practical exams latest by June 11, 2021.
As per the date updated by the Union Health Ministry, India registered a record single-day spike of 1,26,789 new COVID-19 cases, pushing its infection tally to 1,29,28,574, while the number of active cases too went upwards to breach the nine lakh-mark again.
