According to the teachers, the biggest concern has been the possibility of reducing the marks to fit the moderation criteria as per a Times Now report. Various teachers on the designated result committees have reached out to their city coordinators highlighting several areas of concern. Furthermore, some schools have also questioned if it is fair to ‘evaluate’ students on the basis of the performance of students of 2019 or 2020.
While speaking to Times Now, a school principal lamented about the fact that as per the moderation policy, as many as 65 students were to be placed in less than 26 marks band while the actual number was only 6. She further added, "This means I have to reduce marks of 55 students to below 26. How is that right? Especially now, in this pandemic, when the children have been home bound, going through immense mental trauma and fatigue!"
Mr. Vikas, a teacher also pointed out the fact that all the students already know the exact marks they have scored in various examinations conducted by school. The students and their parents also know their marks, the weightage formula and are expecting a certain result. Mr. Vikas pointed out that after they moderate and send the marks to CBSE, the students and the parents would ask them. He wondered how to answer them.
A number of similar messages have been shared with various city coordinators, seeking urgent attention of the CBSE and a more relaxed approach from the board. However, a few teachers have also supported the moderation policy and stated that it is the only way to keep the schools honest.
It must be noted that the CBSE has shared the moderation policy with various schools for calculating the CBSE Class 10 Board Exam 2021 results. The CBSE has also shared the brackets in which the marks of Class 10 students would have to be moderated on. This step has been taken to provide a standardized and more unbiased result for the students.
