"Supreme Court dismisses a plea seeking cancellation of offline exams for Class X and XII to be conducted by all State Boards, CBSE, ICSE and National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS). Supreme Court says these kinds of petitions are misleading and give false hope to students," news agency ANI tweeted from its official Twitter handle.

The plea, filed through advocate Prashant Padmanabhan, said many students studying in CBSE, ICSE, NIOS and state board approached the petitioner, Anubha Shrivastava Sahai, for issues they were facing regarding the board exams, as per an IANS report.

The plea urged the top court to issue directions to concerned authorities to pass a notification regarding alternate mode of assessment of students from Class 10, 11 and 12 of CBSE, ICSE, NIOS and state boards instead of offline exams. Furthermore, the plea also prayed the court to pass a direction to conduct an improvement exam for those who are not satisfied with internal assessment and further direction to constitute a committee to decide the formula of assessment of students, including compartment students and declare the result within a time limit and deadline.

The bench of the apex court headed by Justice A M Khanwilkar observed that such petition creates false hopes and confusion. The bench also comprised of Justices Dinesh Maheshwari and C T Ravikumar.

The CBSE decided to conduct term two board exams for Class 10 and Class 12 from April 26, 2022. The chances of the second term of the board examination getting cancelled this year are very slim, as health experts had earlier mentioned that the third wave is under control. However, students who decide to skip the exams will be graded on the basis of their first term`s test results, an IANS report informed earlier.

The CBSE Term 1 Exam 2022 for classes 10 and 12 were completed on December 22, 2021.
