The CBSE is yet to confirm the 'objective criterion' but recently, the CBSE has announced an assessment and evaluation practices of the board for the session 2021-22. Prior to the sudden surge in the number of COVID-19 cases in the country, the CBSE has been taking certain initiatives to do away with the prevalent rote learning system currently existing in the Indian education system. From formulating comic book-based curriculum to assessment framework, the CBSE has adopted various innovative tools to strengthen the existing education system in the country. However, then the CBSE had to shift its attention towards the class 10 class 12 board exams due to the COVID-19 situation in the country.

The CBSE has come up with the assessment and evaluation practices as a part of the National Education Policy 2020 that has affirmed the need to move from rote to competency-based learning making it more focused on developing the creative and critical thinking capacities of students to meet the challenges of the 21st century proactively.

As per the circular by CBSE, "Augmenting the thrust towards CBE, the Board is initiating further corresponding changes in the Examination and Assessment practices for the year 2021-22." desired ends. As a result, in the forthcoming sessions a greater number of Competency Based Questions or questions that assess application of concepts in real-life/ unfamiliar situations will be part of the question paper.

At present, the CBSE class 10 board exam candidates are eagerly waiting for an elucidation on the 'objective criterion'. The board will also soon make a clarification on the same. Due to the pandemic situation in the country, the CBSE has also postponed the class 12 board exams. The revised schedule for the class 12 board exams will be announced after a thorough review of the COVID-19 situation of the country on June 1, 2021.
