There have been demands from several quarters to cancel the CBSE board exam 2021 or to postpone it amidst this surge in the number of COVID-19 cases in the country.

As per a report by ANI, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has urged the centre to cancel the CBSE board exams in this adverse situation in the national capital. While addressing a press conference, Kejriwal stated, "Six lakh children in Delhi are going to write CBSE exams. Nearly one lakh teachers will be a part of it. These can become major hotspots leading to the large-scale spreading of Corona. Children's lives and health is very important to us. I request Centre to cancel CBSE exams." As an alternative, he suggested that online mode of examination or internal assessment can be used to promote the students.
The Delhi government has already issued orders to close down schools till further notice last week. On Friday, the Delhi Chief Minister tweeted from his twitter handle, "Due to the rise in the number of COVID cases, all schools (government and private) in Delhi are being closed for classes till further orders."
Incidentally, there has been a lot of hue and cry among the CBSE class 10 class 12 board exam candidates and their guardians regarding the CBSE board exams 2021 scheduled to commence from May 4, 2021. The hashtag "cancelboardexams2021" has been trending on Twitter. More than one lakh students of classes 10 and 12 have signed petitions urging the government to either cancel board exams scheduled to be held in May or conduct them in online mode.
While addressing the press conference, Kejriwal added, "Some alternative methods could be thought of. Children can be promoted this time on the basis of either an online method or internal assessment. But CBSE board exams should be cancelled."
The rising number of coronavirus cases in the state has also compelled the Maharashtra government to postpone the Maharashtra class 10 class 12 board exams. On Monday afternoon, the education minister Varsha Gaikwad tweeted from her official twitter handle, "Imp. Announcement: Given the current Covid-19 situation in Maharashtra, we’ve postponed state board exams for class 10th and 12th. The present circumstances are not conducive for holding exams. Your health is our priority."
In the last 24 hours, Delhi reported 11,491 fresh COVID-19 cases according to the Union Health Ministry. It also recorded 72 deaths in the last 24 hours.
Meanwhile, the total number of active cases in the country has reached 12,64,698.
