As per an ANI report, the Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Wednesday urged the Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal to postpone the board exams for classes 10 and 12 in view of the COVID-19 situation in the country. The Punjab Chief Minister in a letter wrote to Pokhriyal, "it would only be appropriate that a decision is taken forthwith to postpone the class 10 class 12 board examinations,"
Captain Amarinder Singh is not the first Chief Minister to urge the central government to postpone the CBSE class 10 class 12 exams. Yesterday, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal requested the centre to cancel the CBSE board exams in this adverse situation in the national capital. While addressing a press conference, Kejriwal stated, "Six lakh children in Delhi are going to write CBSE exams. Nearly one lakh teachers will be a part of it. These can become major hotspots leading to the large-scale spreading of Corona. Children's lives and health is very important to us. I request Centre to cancel CBSE exams." As an alternative, he suggested that online mode of examination or internal assessment can be used to promote the students. "Some alternative methods could be thought of. Children can be promoted this time on the basis of either an online method or internal assessment. But CBSE board exams should be cancelled," Kejriwal stated.
In Maharashtra, the education minister of the state Varsha Gaikwad tweeted earlier this week to announce the postponement of the class 10 class 12 board exams of the state. In a series of tweets concerning Maharashtra HSC SSC board exam 2021, the Maharashtra Education Minister also said that they will be writing to the CBSE, ICSE, IB, Cambridge boards in order to request them to reconsider their exam dates.
Coming back to Punjab, the Chief Minister of the state cited the increasing nation-wide figures of COVID-19 patients and emphasised on the fact that this situation naturally creates a lot of anticipation and anguish among the class 10 class 12 board exam candidates and their parents.
In other news, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to have a meeting with the Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal and other high education officials regarding the CBSE board exams today from 12 PM.
