Bihar schools reopening call likely tomorrow; preparations start

Bihar schools reopening: Schools and educational institutions in Bihar have not opened from today and the state education department is likely to hold a meeting on Tuesday to take a decision on reopening them. 

After the Centre issued guidelines on the reopening of schools and colleges in the Unlock 4 guidelines, many states have reopened the schools between Class 9 and Class 12 from today. The states which have decided to opening schools between Class 9 and Class 12 are Assam, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Nagaland. 

While the states that will not resume classes include Delhi, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Uttarakhand, West Bengal.   

As per some reports, the state government will take stock of the prevailing situation in state with respect to the coronavirus pandemic. Any decision regarding reopening of schools will be taken during the meeting. The government is also likely to issue guidelines after consulting all stakeholders to ensure safety of students at schools, a senior official has said. 

Principal Secretary in the Department of Education, Sanjay Kumar, had issued a statement on Sunday evening, confirming that the final decision with regards to reopening of schools would be taken on 22 Sept 2020.  

“The directors of primary, secondary and higher education higher education and other officials would attend the meeting. The stakeholders will discuss whether to reopen the schools for Classes IX to XII only or other classes as well,” he had said.

The guidelines or Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) will be prepared in accordance to the guidelines issued by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the Principal Secretary had indicated.

Schools on standby 

While the schools are awaiting a decision from the state government, they have already started their preparations in accordance to the health and home ministry guidelines. The schools have been gearing up for the JEE Main and NEET 2020 examinations.
