Rupee gains 11 paise to 82.84 against US dollar
At the interbank foreign exchange, the domestic unit opened at 82.82 against the dollar and then rose to 82.81, registering a gain of 3 paise over its previous close.
The rupee gained 11 paise to 82.84 against the US dollar in early trade on Tuesday supported by foreign fund inflows and a positive trend in domestic equities. Forex traders said the rupee is trading in a narrow range as the broad strength of the greenback is restricting the appreciating bias.
At the interbank foreign exchange, the domestic unit opened at 82.82 against the dollar and then rose to 82.81, registering a gain of 3 paise over its previous close.
On Monday, the rupee closed at 82.84 against the US currency.
The dollar index — which gauges the dollar against six currencies other than the rupee — was last seen trading 0.03 per cent higher at 103.16. The index compares the dollar to the yen, the pound, the Canadian dollar, the Swedish krona, the Swiss franc, and the euro.
Brent crude futures, the global oil benchmark, advanced 0.34 per cent to $76.25 per barrel.
In the domestic equity market, the 30-share BSE Sensex advanced 192.11 points or 0.31 per cent to 62,155.79. The broader NSE Nifty rose 76.55 points or 0.42 per cent to 18,390.95.
Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) were net buyers in the capital market on Monday as they purchased shares worth Rs 922.89 crore, according to exchange data.
