The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has constituted a committee of experts on the benchmarking of its statistics. The panel, chaired by RBI Deputy Governor Dr Michael Debabrata Patra, will perform the following tasks, as per an official release: 

  • Benchmark the statistics regularly disseminated by it against global standards/best practices
  • Study the quality of other regular data, where such benchmarks do not exist
  • Provide guidance on the scope for any further data refinement

The Patra-chaired panel will submit its report by the end of November 2024, according to the RBI. 

The central bank’s Department of Statistics and Information Management (DSIM) will provide the necessary secretarial assistance to the committee.
