Rabi-season crop sowing crosses 428 lakh hectares, wheat sowing up 6.6% this year: Centre

The central government said on Monday that the area dedicated to the sowing of rabi-season crop has crossed 428 lakh hectares so far this year, with the coverage of wheat recorded at 200.35 lakh hectares. While wheat sowing increased 6.6 per cent over the corresponding period a year ago, the coverage dedicated to pulses grew 3.6 per cent to 108.95 lakh hectares, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.
The coverage under Shri Anna (millet grains) and coarse cereals increased 18.5 per cent to 29.24 lakh hectares, the ministry said.
