Noida International Airport: UP CM Yogi Adityanath announces higher land compensation for farmers by Rs 1,200 to Rs 4,300 per square meter
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday announced a higher land acquisition compensation rate for farmers for the upcoming Noida International Airport located in the Jewar area of Gautam Buddh Nagar district. Set to be inaugurated in April next year, the Noida International Airport is likely to position Jewar as a major economic and industrial hub in the region. Earlier in the day, CM Adityanath engaged in land acquisition-related talks with local farmers for the crucial airport project, discussing the various concerns and demands in detail.
Here are 10 things to know about this development:
- The CM's Office said the compensation would be increased by Rs 1,200 per square metre to Rs 4,300 per square metre (from the earlier Rs 3,100 per square metre). The development fulfills a long-standing demand of the farmers, according to an official statement.
- The matter relates to the acquisition of land under the third phase of the airport project.
- The compensation excludes additional interest as per norms.
- The state promised adequate measures to address the rehabilitation, employment and resettlement of the impacted farmer families.
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the airport in April. CM Adityanath said that the airport will begin flight operations in the same month.
- Jewar MLA Dhirendra Singh emphasised the "transformative progress" in Jewar on account of the Noida International Airport project. The project has brought unprecedented development and improved law and order in the region, he said.
- The greenfield project has created opportunities and turned Jewar into a symbol of growth, said Singh.
- The MLA also urged the authorities to resolve the farmers' grievances swiftly and provide them with compensation and facilities. "This project not only secures Jewar's future but also ensures the dignity and welfare of its farmers," he said.
- Meanwhile, Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) CEO Arun Vir Singh assured the farmers that the remaining compensation under the third phase of the project will be distributed soon.
- The airport is set to be the country's largest upon completion. It is projected to handle 70 million passengers annually when fully completed, with connectivity infrastructure, including the Eastern Peripheral Road, Yamuna Expressway, Delhi-Mumbai Expressway and Delhi-Varanasi High-Speed Rail, ensuring seamless access.
