GST Council set to meet on September 9; here is what you can expect
On June 22, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that the next meeting of the GST Council would take place in mid to late August.
The GST Council is set to conduct its 54th meeting in the national capital on September 9. The pending issues of the last meeting are likely to be discussed in the upcoming meeting.
The all-powerful panel - responsible for making recommendations on issues related to the implementation of the indirect tax regime - is expected to issues such as rate rationalisation and compliance.

Chaired by the finance minister, the GST Council comprises representatives from States and Union Territories.
In its last meeting, which took place on June 22, the GST Council decided on several key decisions aimed at easing the compliance burden and providing relief to taxpayers. It also proposed an exemption for specific services offered by Indian Railways to the general public, as well as for intra-railway transactions.
The GST Council also cleared approved an extension for availing input tax credit (ITC) on any invoice or debit note.
The sale of platform tickets and services such as retiring rooms, waiting rooms, cloakroom facilities, and battery-operated car services are now exempt from GST.
At the 53rd meeting, the finance minister reiterated the Union government's intent to bring petrol and diesel under the ambit of Goods and Services Tax (GST).
