The Delhi Metro has introduced "tourist smart cards" for a limited period, starting September 4, 2023, to facilitate the G20 delegates and international visitors who might be interested in exploring the prominent tourist places of the capital city as they arrive in New Delhi. The development comes days ahead of the G20 Summit, scheduled to be held in New Delhi on September 9 and 10.
Here are 10 things to know about the Delhi Metro's tourist smart cards for G2 delegates and international tourists:
- The tourist smart card will be available for a period of 10 days, starting September 4.
- The smart card will be available at designated counters at select Metro stations.
- The smart card will be offered in two validity options: one day and three days.
- While the smart card with a validity period of one day is priced at Rs 200, that with a three-day validity card is available for Rs 500. The amount includes a refundable security deposit of Rs 50.
- In addition to unlimited rides in the Delhi Metro, the card will provide tourists with the convenience of traversing the entire network from the first train to the last train service available for the day.
- No penalty or surcharge is applied to the smart card for situations such as entry or exit mismatches, or extended stays within the network.
- Delhi Metro, the country's largest Metro network that, offers extensive connectivity to nearly all of the city's prominent tourist destinations, including landmarks such as the Red Fort, Jama Masjid, Akshardham Temple, and Kalkaji.
- Travelers can effortlessly access these tourist spots by utilising the various Metro corridors with these cards.
- Additionally, tourists can download the Delhi Metro Rail app for comprehensive network information to plan their journeys. The app features a dedicated 'tour guide' section on its homepage, listing all stations and nearby tourist attractions.
- The tourist smart card will also be available at all Metro stations across the network (excluding the Airport Express Line). Anyone interested in exploring the city can acquire the card at any station throughout the day.
