Grameen Bharat Mahotsav 2025: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday, January 4, 2025, outlined notable updates regarding the progress of various initiatives in India's banking and rural sectors, including banking initiatives in multiple sectors, expansion of geographical indication (GI), and rural areas development.

Sitharaman spoke about these developments at the Grameen Bharat Mahotsav 2025, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Banking Initiatives Across 16 Sectors

Banks are actively working in 16 identified sectors to provide financial assistance. Notably, collateral-free loans are being extended in these sectors, ensuring easier access to credit for eligible individuals and businesses.

"Banks are currently working across 16 sectors to provide financial assistance, including the provision of collateral-free loans," the FM said.

Expansion of Geographical Indication

A total of 650 GI tags have been granted across the country, recognising and promoting region-specific products with unique heritage and quality. "India has successfully granted 650 GI tags to unique, region-specific products, promoting their heritage and quality." Sitharaman stated.

Focus on Rural India

The Grameen Bharat Mahotsav has prominently showcased 50 GI-tagged products, aiming to bring them into the spotlight and enhance their market reach. "The Rural India Mahotsav has showcased 50 GI-tagged products, aiming to enhance their visibility and market potential, she adds.

Support for Organic Farming

She also said 'Grameen Bharat Mahotsav' has also witnessed participation from individuals involved in organic farming.
