Donyi Polo airport inauguration: PM Modi inaugurates Arunachal Pradesh's first greenfield airport - PHOTOS
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Arunachal Pradesh's first greenfield airstrip — Donyi Polo airport — on Saturday. PM Modi had laid the airport's foundation stone in February 2019. The spanking new airport was dedicated to the nation amidst chanting of incantations by tribal priests.
The Donyi Polo airport located at Hollongi — near Arunachal Pradesh's capital city Itanagar — will connect the northeastern state's capital by air with the rest of the country. Commercial flights emanating from the Donyi Polo airport will link the border state with other Indian cities, as well with other parts of Arunachal Pradesh through helicopter services.
As per the official estimates, the Donyi Polo airport will benefit some 20 lakh people in the region and help boost connectivity, trade and tourism.
