Woman dies after emergency landing of SpiceJet plane
An elderly woman died mid-flight on a Mumbai-bound SpiceJet flight on Monday evening, forcing an emergency landing in Varanasi. Kalawati Devi, 85, was flying with her grandson from Darbhanga to Mumbai on SpiceJet aircraft SG 116. Her condition deteriorated after the jet took off from Darbhanga airport at 5.40 p.m. on Monday, and proceeded some distance.
Because the jet had approached the airspace of Uttar Pradesh at that point, the pilot immediately called Air Traffic Control (ATC) Varanasi for emergency landing authorisation. The woman was brought to a local hospital when the jet arrived at Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport in Varanasi around 6 PM on Monday. After some time, the doctors certified her dead.
Meanwhile, shares of SpiceJet were trading at Rs 59.49 each, down 2.70 per cent at 12.43 PM on BSE on Wednesday, December 27.
