Itanagar Airport Name: Hollongi Greenfield Airport to be called Donyi Polo Airport - here is what the new name means
Donyi Polo Airport: The Arunachal Pradesh Airport project is being developed by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) with the help of the Central Government and the State Government of Arunachal Pradesh. The total cost of the project is Rs 646 crore.
Donyi Polo Airport: The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved the proposal of renaming the Hollongi Greenfield Airport as Donyi Polo Airport, Itanagar. The word Donyi refers to Sun and Polo refers to the word Moon.
The Union Cabinet is chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. According to the official notification, "The resolution was passed by the State Government of Arunachal Pradesh to name the airport as ‘Donyi Polo Airport, Itanagar’, which reflect the people’s reverence of the Sun (Donyi) and the Moon (Polo) to symbolize the traditions and rich cultural heritage of the State."
The government of India granted ‘In-principle’ approval for the development of Hollongi Greenfield Airport in January, 2019.
"Towards the Progress of North East India. Today's Cabinet chaired by PM Shri @narendramodi Ji approved the naming of the Greenfield Airport at Hollongi, Itanagar, in Arunachal Pradesh as 'Donyi Polo Airport, Itanagar'," Minister of Road Transport & Highways Nitin Gadkari tweeted.
