Delhi Airport's Terminal-1 reopens after 50 days; IndiGo flights to resume from September
According to GMR, the number of flights will increase in the upcoming days to reduce congestion at Terminals 2 and 3.
Delhi Airport's Terminal-1 which was closed for 50 days, has reopened for flight operations on Saturday, August 17, 2024.
Flight services were shut down on June 28 after a portion of its canopy collapsed during heavy rainfall.
Initially, SpiceJet will operate 13 flights from Terminal-1, while IndiGo Airlines will start operating 34 flights from September 2.
According to GMR, the number of flights will increase in the upcoming days to reduce congestion at Terminals 2 and 3.
The closure of Terminal-1 had led to a significant increase in passenger traffic at Terminals 2 and 3.
Moreover, a survey by Local Circles revealed that airline passengers consider security at Terminal 3 of Delhi airport to be the biggest bottleneck.
Here are the key highlights of the survey:
- 62 per cent of respondents said security for entry and main security check is poorly managed at T3.
- Terminal 3 is the most preferred terminal for domestic flights out of Delhi.
- Terminal 1 is the most preferred terminal for flights from within India into Delhi.
