Delhi Airport to get India's first multi-modal interstate transport hub
GMR, the operator of the Delhi Airport, stated in a release that it is planning to establish this first-of-its-kind multi-modal transport hub — which will be integrating bus, metro, and air services — near the Aerocity as part of its long-term aim to provide enhanced passenger experience to flyers even before they reach the airport.
India's first multi-modal interstate transport hub at Delhi Airport: A proposal has been floated to construct a hub near the GMR Aerocity at the Delhi airport, which will be the confluence point of an Interstate Bus Terminal (ISBT), the upcoming Phase 4 line of the Delhi Metro, the proposed Passenger Transport Center (PTC) and RRTS station, and a station for the Automated Passenger Mover (APM). The hub has been planned to provide a seamless connectivity to the Delhi airport through Metro, buses and trains to the passengers arriving from neighbouring states.
As per the proposal, an Inter State Bus Terminal (ISBT) at the passenger hub, which will be developed in a phased manner in consultation with the Transport Department of the Delhi Government, would handle around 50 buses.

India's first multi-modal interstate transport hub at Delhi Airport: Salient Points
• The hub will be well connected with an Interstate Bus Terminus (ISBT), the upcoming phase 4 line of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), the proposed Passenger Transport Centre (PTC) and the proposed Rapid Rail Transit System (RRTS) station, including the station for Automated Passenger Mover (APM) near the GMR Aerocity.
• It will provide seamless connectivity to the airport through metro, bus and trains to passengers coming from the neighbouring states.
• Delhi Airport, being the national capital’s airport and connected to a maximum number of international destinations and airlines, has large catchment areas from Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. Passengers from these states travel to IGI airport by interstate buses to catch international flights.
• Currently, there is no proper facility for parking these interstate buses at Delhi Airport. Therefore, this proposed facility will immensely help all the passengers coming from adjoining interstate cities to catch international flights.
Talking about the developement, Videh Kumar Jaipuriar, CEO, DIAL – a GMR Airport Infrastructure Limited-led consortium said, “India’s first multimodal transport hub, which will integrate bus, metro, and air services, is a transformative project that redefines passenger convenience, offering enhanced facilities for bus travellers. It will offer an unparalleled passenger experience that begins before you even reach the airport. By prioritizing bus travellers and their needs, DIAL is creating a truly inclusive transportation ecosystem. More than just a transportation hub, this project represents our commitment to sustainable development and reduced traffic congestion. By encouraging public transport usage, DIAL is paving the way for a cleaner, greener future."
