Air India issues important update on Mumbai flight operations affected by heavy rains; full refunds to be offered for cancellations

Air India has issued an important update regarding flight operations in Mumbai due to heavy rains. Passengers traveling to and from Mumbai are advised to start their journey early to the airport, as slow traffic and waterlogging may cause significant delays.

The adverse weather conditions are impacting flight schedules, leading to cancellations and diversions of some Air India flights. In response to this situation, Air India is offering passengers full refunds or a one-time complimentary rescheduling for bookings confirmed for travel on July 25, 2024.

Passengers are urged to stay updated on their flight status and plan accordingly to avoid inconvenience. Air India apologizes for any disruption caused and appreciates the understanding and cooperation of its guests during this period.

According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the weather forecast at 8 am today predicts moderate to heavy rain in the city and suburbs. There is also a possibility of very heavy rainfall in isolated areas, with occasional gusty winds reaching speeds of 50-60 kmph.

The BMC reports that the reservoirs supplying water to Mumbai have been experiencing heavy rains, resulting in a steady increase in water storage levels. Currently, four reservoirs—Vihar, Tulsi, Tansa, and Modaksagar—are overflowing. As a result, the 10% water cut in Mumbai's water supply will be withdrawn starting Monday, July 29. The BMC is also lifting the 10% water cut for Thane City, Bhiwandi, and the Outside City Division Grampanchayats, which receive water from the BMC, effective from the same date.

Additionally, the Indian Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for Maharashtra, predicting extremely heavy rainfall. An orange alert has been issued for the state on Wednesday, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall (115.6 to 204.4 mm) from July 26 to July 27. This alert also applies to Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg districts in Maharashtra's Konkan region.
