South Asia’s largest flying school is being established by Air India at Belora Airport in Amravati, Maharashtra. This school is expected to open by mid-2025, pending regulatory approvals. Air India, as part of its Vihaan.AI transformation program, is developing this state-of-the-art Flying Training Organisation (FTO) to train cadet pilots.

The facility will span 10 acres and include advanced digital classrooms, hostels, a digitized operations center, and a dedicated maintenance unit. To support training, Air India has placed an order for 34 trainer aircraft, including 31 single-engine planes from Piper Aircraft (USA) and 3 twin-engine planes from Diamond Aircraft (Austria). 

The flying school will be built at Belora Airport in Amravati and it aims to train 180 commercial pilots each year.

The FTO (Flying Training Organisation) in Amravati will cover 10 acres and feature digitally equipped classrooms, hostels, a digitised operations center, and a dedicated maintenance facility.

Air India has opened a new Aviation Training Academy in Gurugram, spanning 600,000 sq ft, making it the largest in South Asia. It is also the first Indian airline to establish a Flying Training Organization (FTO).
