The markets ended the day in green on Monday. Both the BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty today ended the day up almost 2 per cent. While the 30-share BSE Sensex closed at 32,008.61 or over 637 points higher, the broader market Nifty-50 closed at 9,383.55 or over 187 points upwards. The markets today opened on a high note with both Sensex and Nifty gaining by over 3 per cent from the last close on Tuesday. The Sensex took an intraday high of 32,845.48.

Axis Bank, Ultratech Cement, Larsen & Toubro, ICICI Bank and SBI were the top gainers on Sensex at the close while Hindustan Unilever, TCS, Bharti Airtel, Sun Pharmaceuticals and Nestle India were the top losers at the day's end. Out of the 30 stocks, 25 ended on a positive note today.  

Meanwhile, Axis Bank, Ultratech Cement, Larsen & Toubro and Adani Ports were the top gainers on Nifty 50 in the opening Wednesday trade. Top loser on Nifty-50 were Nestle India, Sun Pharmaceuticals, Bharti Airtel, Britannia Industries and TCS at the time of the closing of the market.

Most Nifty sectoral indices today traded in green including Nifty Auto which was up by over 2.4 per cent, Nifty bank by over 4 per cent, Nifty Metal by 2.6 per cent. Nifty FMCG, Nifty Pharma ended below the previous close.  

The rupee was trading at Rs 75.3775 per USD at around 3:30 pm. On Tuesday the rupee ended at 75.3675.

In the global markets, stocks and oil prices fell on Wednesday as fears about a second wave of coronavirus infections gripped financial markets. Investors, many facing steep losses due to the pandemic-driven shakeout in assets over the past few months, have also had to contend with renewed U.S.-China trade tensions. MSCI`s broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan was down 0.4 per cent. Shares in China, where the coronavirus first emerged late last year, fell 0.5 per cent. The South Korean market was down for a third session.
