India has overtaken US to become the second largest smartphone market in the world after China. After a wobble in Q2 2017, India’s smartphone market recovered quickly, with shipments growing 23% year on year in Q3 2017 to reach just over 40 million units, according to research firm Canalys.

This is due to the strong growth of players such as Samsung and Xiaomi during the quarter. Samsung and Xiaomi shipped 9.4 million and 9.2 million units, respectively and accounted for almost half of the total market in India. This is as the top five vendors continued to post a strong growth in Q3 2017.
