The police say the two accused have 91 complaints against them for allegedly duping 557 people of over Rs 200 crore. This money was accepted by them under the pretext of alloting the people houses in Gurugram, Greater Noida and Noida. However, they did not deliver on their agreement.

The police have arrested the two Unitech directors as they wanted to trace the money laundered by them.

The action was taken on them since a case was registered in 2015 on the court's directions. The police further said that the Unitech directors has not obtained prior permission from the competent authorities and their building plans were also not sanctioned.

The police also submitted to the court that the entire Rs 200 crore amount which was kept in escrow accounts has been siphoned off, except Rs 10 lakh. The accused have further failed to provide the details of actual expenditures and the building project papers.

Their defence counsel Rinku Garg however said that these grounds for their arrest are vague in nature because the FIR was registered in 2015.
