India today reported over 2 lakh fresh covid 19 fresh cases in the past 24 hours, the highest ever reported since the outbreak of the virus. The second nationwide wave of Covid-19 pandemic, which appears to be more severe than the first wave has prompted some states to reimpose strict curbs, including partial and complete lockdowns, to tackle the virus.

Mr T.R.Dua, Director-General, TAIPA said, "The frontline workers in the telecom infrastructure industry, consisting of direct and indirect employees have ensured continuity of routine activities – power, diesel filling and attended to routine maintenance/ emergency faults – risking their own lives. They have been working in the toughest of times across all types of zones including the COVID-19 hotspots and therefore need to be considered for vaccination on priority."

He further added, "As the frontline workforce of telecom infrastructure providers continues to provide services on regular basis, it is essential that they are given priority irrespective of their age group, for administering the COVID-19 prevention vaccine in all the States."

Previously TAIPA wrote to Union Health Minister Dr Harshvardhan requesting to include telecom workers under the frontline wires category.
