SpiceJet to expand fleet by adding 10 aircraft
This fleet expansion follows the airline's recent success in securing a fresh capital infusion of Rs 3,000 crore through a Qualified Institutional Placement (QIP) last month.
SpiceJet announced on Tuesday that it will enhance its fleet by adding 10 aircraft by November, with the first plane set to be inducted on October 10. The airline revealed that seven of these aircraft will be acquired through leasing agreements, while three previously grounded planes will be reintroduced into service.
This fleet expansion follows the airline's recent success in securing a fresh capital infusion of Rs 3,000 crore through a Qualified Institutional Placement (QIP) last month. Additionally, the company is set to receive Rs 736 crore from a prior funding round.
The airline has already signed agreements for the leased aircraft, with all seven expected to be fully inducted by November 15. Two of these leased planes have already arrived in India and are scheduled for immediate induction.
SpiceJet plans to gradually operationalise its grounded aircraft, with the first three set to return to service before the end of November.
Ajay Singh, Chairman and Managing Director of SpiceJet, said this addition is crucial as "we continue to meet the growing demand for air travel while strengthening our operational capabilities".
"With the capital raised, SpiceJet is well-positioned to offer improved services and an expanded route network," Singh added.
