Reliance Jio impact: 4G data usage skyrockets to 40 lakh TB in June 2017
After the introduction of Reliance Jio Digital services, India's 4G data usage increased dramatically from June 2016.

Broadband subscribers in India using 4G data increased radically post the launch of Reliance Jio that brought pan India presence of the network, data published by Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on Thursday revealed.
From just 8050 Terabytes (TB) in June 2016 to 3,999,012 TB in June 2017, 4G data usage has skyrocketed.
“2G data usage was 100,390 terabytes, 3G data usage was 690,743 terabyte, 4G data usage was 3,999,012 terabytes and CDMA data usage was 16,270 terabytes,” TRAI said.
Sequentially, post September last year 2G data connectivity has dropped.
Jio that launched in September 2016 lured in subscribers with its discounted data packs and free voice calling.
The Mukesh Ambani backed company spoke of increase in data consumption post Jio’s launch where India ranked 155th in broadband penetration and now ranked on top position.
“Wireless Data usage per subscriber per month over the total wireless subscribers is 1,248 MB during the quarter ending June, 2017,” TRAI said.
“About 34.5% of the total mobile subscribers used data services in the Q.E. June, 2017,” TRAI added.
Jio also ranks first in India in terms of market share with over 40% penetration in broadband services.
Wireless internet subscribers at the end of 32.97 crore in June last year which has reached 40.95 crore in June 2017.
