Reliance Jio’s average 4G LTE speed topped Telecom Regulatory Authority (TRAI)’s MySpeed test for a sixth time in a row with an average download speed of 18.654Mbps in July.

TRAI that released the average speed data for July on Wednesday night showed Jio as one of the top three operators with the fastest internet speed during the month.

After Jio, Vodafone ranked next with an average 4G speed of 11.070Mbps in TRAI’s monthly trend chart, followed by Idea and Airtel with 9.465Mbps and 8.916Mbps respectively.

'Average 4G speeds' of the operators in July was rounded off to a little higher number by TRAI.

However, on average 4G upload speed, Idea ranked first with 7.1 Mbps average speed followed by Vodafone, Jio and Airtel.

Switching to 3G speed, TRAI data showed that Vodafone had the highest average download speed of 5.168Mbps followed by Airtel (3.568Mbps) and Idea (2.941 Mbps).

Last month a report by OpenSignal showed that Jio had the worst 4G LTE speed in India of 3.9Mbps during the period December 2016 to February 2017. However the report measure ‘average peak speed’ of the network.

During the same period, the ‘average peak speeds’ on Airtel was ranked the best at 56.9Mbps.

Though OpenSignal measured the ‘peak’ speed of the operators which was designed to measure optimised 4G experience consumers see when the network is performing at full capacity.
