The blog will reveal what the company has built in-house and which components have been leveraged from the open-source community.
Company CEO Bhavish Aggarwal announced on Saturday, July 6, 2024, via X (formerly Twitter). Aggarwal stated, "For those curious to know what we have built in Ola Maps in-house and what we have leveraged from the open-source community, we will be publishing a detailed technical blog over the weekend. Hope you all enjoy reading it!"
In a post from the previous day, Aggarwal also mentioned that the API of Ola Maps would soon be available on the Krutrim cloud, along with features like street view, NERFs, indoor images, 3D maps, and drone maps.
Ola launched Ola Maps after entirely exiting Google Maps on July 5, 2024, due to the high costs associated with the third-party service. This move allows the company to incur no additional costs for the feature. According to Aggarwal, Google Maps charged around Rs 100 crore annually for providing the mapping technology.
