Now, Uber is more popular than Cadillac in hip-hop songs
By 2015 Ubers RWF had zoomed past Cadillac and Escalade to nearly 0.002%.
There was a time when hip-hop and rap songs were about riches, women and cars such as Cadillac's and Cadillac Escalade's. While the first two still remain a largely popular context in today's rap and hip-hop music, the reference to Cadillac is now seen as something of the past.
In terms of Rap Word Frequency (RWF), the word Cadillac was at the top at nearly 0.006% in 2005, while the Escalade was just above 0.001% RWF, according to a CB Insights report.
By 2010, the RWF of Cadillac had reduced to nearly 0.002% and Escalade was below 0.001%. Uber, on the other hand, was at the very bottom as it had just started to gain ground as a taxi-hailing app.
However, by 2015, Uber's RWF had zoomed past Cadillac and Escalade to nearly 0.002%. Cadillac and Escalade's mentions in rap singers' lyrics, meanwhile, kept declining.
Some of the latest hip-hop songs which mention Uber include 'Decisions' by Wiz Khalifa, 'Child's Play' by SZA Feat. Chance The Rapper, 'The Worst Guys' by Childish Gambino, 'DGIFU' by Pusha T, 'Lituation' by Fabulous, 'Headache' by Rick Ross Feat. French Montana, 'Flava' by Young Thug.
