The Delhi government has just made it more convenient for new vehicle owners as their registration documents will be delivered to their addresses. New vehicle owners will no longer have to visit the motor licensing offices (MLOs) to collect their RCs (registration certificates), and instead it will be delivered to their addresses, according to a Financial Express report quoting a senior government official.
According to the report, the Delhi government's transport department has come up with a software that will allow vehicle owners to track the status of their RCs. While the system is expected to be launched soon, it may be delayed due to by-polls for the Bawana constituency.
Delhi's transport department hopes to streamline and speed up the vehicle documentation process through the new system.
The senior official quoted in the report said that around 10 lakh RCs are issued annually by them and that a majority of them are for new vehicles. It further added that sending the registration documents to the vehicle owners will not only be a great relief to them but also it will cut down corruption.
Currently, driving licenses in Delhi are dispatched to people's homes directly by the transport department.
The Delhi government has been announcing new rules and regulations to increase transparency in the vehicle documentation processes and issuing of driving licenses.
Even the central government in April ordered that Aadhaar cards would be mandatory for issuance or renewal of drivers licenses.
