In a bid to fight the plastic menace in the country, Nestle India has started an initiative on a pilot basis. This return programme by the company would offer one free Maggi packet for 10 empty packets.
According to an Economic Times report, Nestle India has first started this programme at two places in Uttarakhand. The customers can exchange 10 empty packets of Maggi Noodles for one free packet at any retail shops. Now, the company is working with 250 retail shops in Dehradun and Mussoorie to execute this pilot project.
The report said that Maggi along with PepsiCo’s Lay’s chips and Parle’s Frooti were named as the top brands causing plastic pollution in the hill stations of Uttarakhand. The plastics are not being disposed of efficiently in those places which is the main reason for the pollution.
“We are hopeful that this will bring about a behaviour change in consumers and help create awareness for responsibly disposing of plastic waste and prevent littering,” ET quoted Nestlé spokesperson as saying.
As per the report, as a part of their promotional expenditure, Nestle India will bear the cost of the free Maggi packet. The empty packets will be collected from the company by the Indian Pollution Control Association and will be disposed of responsibly.
