Mumbai rains leads to flight cancellations again; check your flight details here
Heavy rains have once again taken a toll on airline operations. From the main runway at Mumbai airport being closed off to flight cancellations here's all you need to know.
Key Highlights
- The main runway at Mumbai airport has been closed off till 2pm today.
- Jet Airways has cancelled 118 flights to and from Mumbai.
- Airlines have waived off penalties for no shows and flight changes for passengers travelling on September 20.
Heavy rains in Mumbai that continued since Tuesday evening have impacted flight operations once again. Last month a bout of heavy rainfall in the city also led to the cancellation and delay of flights right up till the next day.
Mumbai has reportedly received 210 mm rainfall with its suburbs witnessing 303mm in the last 24 hours.
Owing to the heavy rains, a SpiceJet flight carrying 183 passengers overshot the main runway at the Mumbai airport and got stuck in the loose soil. The Varanasi to Mumbai plane landed at 10:05 pm on runway 27. The company said that all passengers were deplaned safely.
The runway will be closed off for maintainance till 2pm today.
Lack of runway availability and predictions of heavy showers in the next 24 hours by the IMD has impacted operations of airlines like IndiGo, SpiceJet and Jet Airways.
In a tweet, Jet Airways put out a list of 118 flights that now stand cancelled.
“In lieu of the main runway not being available at Mumbai airport till 1400 hours on Sep 20, 2017 the following flights have been cancelled. We continue to closely monitor the situation in Mumbai. Guests are advised to check flight status before leaving for the airport,” Jet Airways said.
