MTNL, the state-run telecom service operator, is now bracing up to become more competitive in the market that is ruled by the private players. The state-run company, which was a significant player covering almost all corners of the country, in the past few years has lost its ground to the private telecom service providers.  In a latest development, MTNL has come up with a new prepaid plan that is on par with the plans offered by private players. The plan of Rs 171 plan is part of the company’s Trump Special STVs which now start at Rs 171 and goes up to Rs 421, according to Telicom Talk. For now, STVs are available only for MTNL prepaid users in Delhi and Mumbai circles.

This plan offers 1.5GB data benefit unlimited voice calls and 100 SMS per day for 28 days, it said. The voice calls and SMS benefits are limited to Mumbai and Delhi telecom circles only. The state-run company has its operations in two circles only. The STV 171 gives 1.5GB 3G data only as MTNL is yet to launch 4G services. Once a user exhausts the 1.5GB daily data, he/she will be charged at 3 paise per 10 KB data, the report said.

Free data usage benefit will also available in national roaming. Outside Delhi and Mumbai, standard roaming charges will be applicable.  MTNL users in Delhi or Mumbai can recharge this plan online or by sending SMS ‘RCH ‹Denomination of pack›’ to 444.

MTNL's  other plans include Rs 197, Rs 365 and Rs 421.
