This robust sales was driven by Utility Vehicles segment which once again managed to contribute highest performance.

In the auto sector, Utility  vehicles have taken the spot light since the start of the current financial year.

Maruti sold 17,432 units of utility vehicles which included Gypsy, Ertiga, S-cross, Vitara and Brezza. This was a rise of 89% from 9236 units of utility vehicles sold in the same month of the previous year.

For Maruti, compact and van segment too performed positively. Maruti's compact cars like Ritz, Swift, Celerio, Dzire and Baleno contributed 2% rise, by selling 50,121 units in August from 49,264 units a year ago same month.

While in vans, Eeco and Omni rose by 4.41% with 13,159 units sold against 12,603 units in August 2015.

However Maruti's mini, super compact and midsize recorded sluggish sales in August.

Among mini vehicles - Alto and Wagon R declined by 13.24% with 37,626 units sold from 43,369 units of August 2015. Whereas super compact and midsized - Dzire Tour and Ciaz declined sequentially by 1.10% with 9395 units of sales in this period from 9500 units sold in August 2015.

Surprisingly, Maruti sold around 258 units of light commercial vehicle Super Carry from just 7 units sold in August last year.

Recently to boost LCV segment, Maruti had commenced the Super Carry in Gujarat. It also plans to enhance it's commercial channel by reaching 50 outlets by the year end.

The passenger vehicle-giant registered a 12.2% growth in August sales, mainly boosted by Utility vehicle and some compact cars. It sold 1.32 lakh units during the month against 1.17 lakh units sold in same period last year.
