Maruti Suzukis small car success finally rubs off on its bigger cars
While Maruti Suzuki has been the king in the hatchbacks and compact cars, the company which had failed earlier in selling larger cars such as sedans and SUVs.
Maruti Suzuki has managed regain its over 50% market share in April. The company commanded 52.48% market share in the Indian automobile market in the given month
There has been no stopping the car maker's growth as in April it recorded 19.5% growth with domestic sales growing by 16.2% during the given month with 1,17,045 units sold from 1,00,709 units in the same period last year.
While Maruti Suzuki has been the king in the hatchbacks and compact cars, the company which had failed earlier in selling larger cars such as sedans and SUVs, has managed to gain ground.
Some its larger cars such as Vitara Brezza, Ciaz, and even S-Cross have become one of the most successful cars in the company's portfolio.
The company had earlier failed in many of its attempts to gain ground in larger cars. Some of the cars which failed to make a mark in the Indian market include the Maruti Suzuki Versa, Grand Vitara and Kizashi.
Today, out of the 14 cars in Maruti Suzuki's portfolio it sells 8 large cars, which includes 2 sedans, 2 SUVs and 4 multi utility vehicles (MUVs). The remaining 6 models still belong to the hatchback segment.
For instance, the Vitara Brezza, which was launched in March 2016, has now become one of the top selling cars in the Maruti Suzuki portfolio. The compact SUV in April posted a 36% growth year-on-year (YoY) as it sold 10,653 units, according to data from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM). That is not all, it has sold over 10,000 units in the last 3 months and accounts for nearly 9,000 units in sales every month.
Another sedan from the Maruti Suzuki stable the Ciaz has also been a successful driver of sales for the company. In April it posted a 23.2% growth in sales to 7,024 units. On an average over the last six months it has sold close to 5,000 units every month. A month earlier in March it sold 4,918 units, it sold 5,886 units in February and 6,530 units in January.
Even S-Cross being a premium crossover SUV has managed to sell over 2,000 units during the last few months. In April it saw a 6.7% rise in sales to stand at 2,676 units.
