Maruti Suzuki posted a 19.5% jump in total sales in April at 151,215 units compared to 126,569 units sold in the same month of the previous year.

The company's of domestic sales stood at 144,492 units in the month, rising by 23.4% versus 117,045 units in April 2016. However, exports declined by 29.4% with sales of 6,723 units as against 9,524 units in April 2016.

Total passenger cars sold this month were109,505 units, up by 26.6% as against 86,481 units sold in April 2016. Among which, compact segment stole the limelight by recording sales of 63,584 units - a whopping increase of 39.1% on year-on-year (YoY) basis.

Maruti's mini and mid-sized vehicles recorded growth of 21.9% yoy and 23.2% yoy with sales of 38,897 units and 7,024 units respectively.

Also utility vehicles registered growth of 23.1% with sales of 20,638 units compared to 16,044 units sold in April 2016.

Sales of vans Omni and Eeco was at 13,938 units, down by 4% from 14,520 units in April 2016. 

In the financial year 2016-17 (FY17), Maruti sold a total of 1,568,603 vehicles including both domestic and exports, which grew by 9.8% compared to 1,429,248 units last fiscal (FY16).
