Private sector lender Kotak Mahindra Bank on Saturday, January 21 reported robust earnings for the October-December quarter in the financial year 2022-23 (Q3FY23). Both the profit and net interest income as well as the asset quality of the bank were in line with Zee Business estimates during the December quarter.

Kotak Mahindra Bank’s net profit grew by 31 per cent to Rs 2,792 crore in Q3FY23 as compared to Rs 2,131 crore in the same quarter a year ago, while the net interest income (NII) of the bank came at Rs 5,653 crore translates to growth of over 30 per cent year-on-year from Rs 4334 crore in Q3FY22.

Here, profit is referred to the amount that remains after a company pays off all its operating and non-operating expenses and taxes. And, NII is the difference between the interest income a bank earns from its lending activities and the interest it pays to depositors.

The bank’s asset quality came in line with beat Zee Business estimates as its gross non-performing assets (NPA) – or bad loans – eased to 1.9 per cent from 2.08 per cent quarter-on-quarter and net NPA improved to 0.43 per cent from 0.55 per cent sequentially.

Zee Business has estimated the asset quality of the bank to improve, it expects gross NPA to come around 1.9 per cent and net NPA around 0.5 per cent during the three-month period of October-December in FY23.

Kotak Mahindra Bank’s Net Interest Margin (NIM) – a key measure of profitability for lenders – was at 5.4 per cent for Q3FY23. The capital adequacy ratio declined to 19.66 per cent in the December quarter as against 21.29 per cent.

Fees and services for Q3FY23 were Rs 1,847 crore, up 23 per cent YoY. CASA ratio as of December 31, 2022, stood at 53.3 per cent.
