Ride-hailing platform Uber said Friday it will bolster its engineering presence in India and is looking to double its product and engineering headcount across tech centres in Bengaluru and Hyderabad.
Plans are afoot to scale up to over 1,000 techies across engineering and product teams in Bengaluru and Hyderabad, said the company which currently has 500 plus engineers across the two locations.
"We see immense potential in India's tech talent and have been expanding our India tech presence since the start of this year. In 2018, our tech teams grew by 150 per cent and we are focused on doubling down again in 2019," Apurva Dalal, Head of Engineering, Uber India said in a statement.
Uber India tech centres in Bengaluru and Hyderabad are "critical" to Uber's global mission of developing urban mobility solutions for everyone, he said.
Techies are working on areas of customer engagement, rider access (next billion riders), Uber Eats, Maps, Marketplace and Data platforms, Dalal added.
