Indigo strike: Staff protest at Varanasi Airport hits passengers, flight operations

Indigo strike: The Varanasi Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport authorities faced difficulties in dealing with passengers of low-cost carrier Interglobe Aviation (Indigo) as the airliner’s staff decided to hold a strike at the airport, impacting operations there. The cause of the strike is still unknown. Indigo has not yet issued any statement over the strike. 

According to India.com report, Varanasi Airport Director said, "We are facing problems at Varanasi Airport in dealing with IndiGo passengers as the airline’s support staff has suddenly called for a strike over salary issues. Indigo staff has not given notice to Airports Authority of India.”

Reportedly, it is being said that as many as 56 staff members of Indigo have gone on strike, affecting the operations of the airline and passengers are facing a tough time there. 

The strike comes at a time, when Indigo is busy dealing with Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), which grounded its A320Neo engines over problems in March. The impact of the grounding, led to cancellation of 488 flights by the end of March for Indigo.

However, on stock exchanges, the strike did not look to have hampered the performance of Indigo’s share price, which soared by Rs 37.80 or 2.76% on BSE and is trading at Rs 1,405.40 at around 12:52 hours.
